The campaign to protect renters is moving forward in Salem! Hearings on the bill started last week in the Oregon Senate. We had a great hearing before the Senate Committee on Human Services last week, with testimony from impacted renters, supportive landlords, and community leaders saying yes on HB 2004.
But that isn’t enough. Unfortunately, the Committee also heard from the bill’s opponents, and that’s why they need to hear from you today. All Oregon senators need to hear from their districts about why HB 2004 must pass before the legislative session ends.
Here’s the list of people who should contact their senator TODAY:
- People who rent their homes are at risk of no-cause evictions or rent spikes. (Hint: that’s ALL renters–40% of Oregonians!)
- People who are landlords or property owners and want rent fairness.
- People who own businesses or manage a workforce who know workers need stable, affordable housing.
- People who know that stable housing is essential for safe communities.
The reality is that Oregon’s housing laws leave renters at risk. That’s why we need HB 2004A, which will protect renters. House Bill 2004A will limit evictions without cause and allows local communities to determine what is best for their housing market.
