Vote Yes on Measure 66 and 67

Each May and November unions across Oregon endorse candidates and ballot measures that we think will have an effect on your life – candidates who will support or oppose the work we do; ballot measures that will protect, or hurt, unions and other organizations; people who support Oregon’s middle class over people who are in it just for themselves and their friends. This year there is an election in January that we can’t afford to sit out.

Ballots will be mail on Friday, January 8th, and you should get it in the mail the next week. Your ballot is due back by Tuesday, January 26th

You have a chance to vote yes for Oregon’s future by voting yes for tax fairness. For the first time in decades a tax measure has been referred to the ballot that will make our tax system more fair and help protect the services we depend on – like public schools, public safety, and healthcare – at a time when state agencies are slashing budgets and cutting services.

These taxes probably won’t affect you. In fact, they only affect the 2.5% of Oregonians. If you’re family makes less than $250,000 a year you won’t see your taxes go up one cent because of these ballot measures – they only target families who are still extremely wealthy even during this economic downturn. If you own a business that pays the minimum corporate tax - $10 (most Oregon businesses pay $10 a year in taxes) – your taxes will go up to $150. And the handful of large Oregon businesses that are still hugely profitable, even during this recession, will pay a little bit more to keep our kids in school and our communities safe.

This election is about what we support and what we think is fair – should Oregon’s most profitable corporations pay less in taxes than you and your family pay, while the services all Oregonians depend on continue to get cut back?

We don’t think so. That’s why we’re voting yes for Oregon, and we hope you do to.
