News continues to emerge about the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Helene on states across the Southeast, including Florida, Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. Our hearts are with the working families in those communities whose lives have been upended by the storm. In times like these, it’s vital for our labor family to stand with and support those most impacted.
We’ve compiled a list of organizations who are working to provide relief in these areas. For more resources, you can visit the National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (NOAD) website. Remember, cash is best. Following FEMA’s recommendations, we strongly encourage you to make cash donations to organizations providing assistance on the ground. As their website states, “Financial contributions to recognized disaster relief organizations are the fastest, most flexible and most effective method of donating. Organizations on the ground know what items and quantities are needed, often buy in bulk with discounts and, if possible, purchase through businesses local to the disaster, which supports economic recovery.”
Helping others and joining together to strengthen communities are core tenets of the labor movement because when one of us is injured, all of us are injured. Listed below are some ways you can help right now.
