Oregon's Unions Respond to the Passing of AFL-CIO President Rich Trumka

Oregon AFL-CIO

The American Labor Movement, the Oregon AFL-CIO, and workers across the nation mourn the loss of AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka today. Rich embodied the spirit and the power of the Labor Movement: his life’s passion was fighting for the underdog and he deeply understood the tremendous power and potential that comes from workers joining together to advocate for a better life and a brighter future. He also had a clear and unwavering appreciation and respect for the role the Labor Movement must play in maintaining a healthy democracy, thriving communities, and a fair, equitable, and just economy. He was a devoted father, grandfather, and leader who dedicated half a century to the causes affecting working people -- our hearts go out to his family and colleagues during this difficult time. Our state was fortunate to have a true friend in President Trumka as he stood with Oregon workers every step of the way in our work towards equity and justice, and the Oregon AFL-CIO’s fight for working people will continue and redouble because of his legacy.
