At the 2019 Oregon AFL-CIO Convention, hundreds of delegates from local unions unanimously passed a resolution that updates the Oregon AFL-CIO Constitution and Bylaws to be inclusive of transgender and gender-nonconforming people, encourages our affiliates to do the same, and codifies our commitment to advocating for the rights of transgender and gender-nonconforming workers through state and local policies.
Advocating for the rights of transgender and gender-nonconforming workers is more important than ever as the U.S. Supreme Court weighs cases that could remove rights for LGTBQ+ workers.
We are proud to have featured an engaging panel discussion about pronouns, featuring Zackariah Sloane, AFSCME 3580 (they/them/theirs), Sam Hughes, UFCW 555 (they/them/theirs) and A.J. Mendoza, CWA 7901 (he/him/his). The panel was moderated by Dominic Lopez of Basic Rights Oregon (he/him/his).
